De Rust is about 35 km's from the Ostrich Capital of South Africa, Oudtshoorn. It is situated on the southern end of the Meiringspoort Pass. To get to De Rust you can take the R29 north from Oudtshoorn or the N12 south from Beaufort West.

Powerboating, sailing and canoeing is possible on the Stompdrift Dam, about 10 km's from De Rust. The dam also offers great fishing prospects.

De Rust has self-catering cottages complete with onsite braai / barbecue facilities and a fully equipped kitchen. Pets are allowed but please contact the facility first to confirm. Hiking trails are also available.

Donkey cart rides are the ideal way to see some of the interesting attractions in the area. The attractions include the Meiringspoort Pass, the waterfall and the mermaid in the pass and the remembrance plaque to Herrie, one of the characters in the CJ Langenhoven novels.

You can also sample some of the local wines and a local brew called Witblits (White Lightning). Most probably named white lightning due to the very high alcohol content.
