Dullstroom Tourism Information

With its sub-alpine climate, the misty atmosphere of Dullstroom is reminiscent of the Scottish Highlands and is ideally suited to the trout which were introduced to its cool waters in the early 1900s. Today, Rainbow and Brown Trout abound in most of Dullstroom's dams, while natural breeding takes place in many of its rivers. Dullstroom is a very popular destination for fly fishing.

Otters can be spotted fishing and frolicking in the waters, three species of crane birds co-exist (one of the few places worldwide this occurs) and herds of oribi inhabit the mountain slopes.

Location
Dullstroom is a tiny Mpumalanga town perched high on the slopes of the Steenkampsberg Mountain Range, a pleasant two hour drive from Gauteng on the N4.

History
Wolterus Dull, a benevolent benefactor, collected money in Holland to assist the Boers in the area who had lost their homes when the original settlement was destroyed during the Anglo Boer War.

"Breaking our trip between Wakkerstroom and Pilgrims Rest, the perfect choice, smothered in history was the delightful town of Dullstroom.

Although the main road through town is only a few hundred metres long, the variety of pubs and restaurants, with a few galleries and gift shops thrown in, is enough to keep any visitor interested for a day or three.
Trout fishermen will require a few more days ....... because this is trout fishing country.

We were very satisfied with our choice of accommodation - The Dullstroom Inn is certainly not 5 star accommodation (no bells and whistles) but more than adequate for our simple needs - a place to sleep with a good meal thrown in. The Dullstroom Inn is very reasonably priced but the cosiness with fireside bar and dinner are certainly worth a few bonus points. Very friendly staff and close proximity to the main tourist junction rounded off a very happy sleepover in Dullstroom" - Avril and Frank
