Gillitts is a lush village about 35km (22 miles) west of Durban. At 550m (1800ft) above sea level, Gillitts enjoys a temperate climate away from the coastal humidity. Close to many tourist and recreational facilities as well as the industrial hubs of Pinetown and Hammarsdale, Gillitts is a delightful retreat for holidaymakers and business executives alike. The spectacular Valley of 1000 Hills with its traditional Zulu village and dancers is just "up the road". So are Shongweni Dam, Game Reserve and Polo Grounds. Another nearby dam is Inanda, on the route of the renowned Dusi Canoe Race from the KwaZulu-Natal provincial capital Pietermaritzburg to Durban. Gillitts is also on the route of the world-famous Comrades Marathon between those two cities. Canoeing, windsurfing, waterskiing, fishing, horse-riding, game viewing, birdwatching and golf are just some of the amenities in the Gillitts area.
