Greytown Overview Information
Greytown was the birthplace of General Louis Botha, the first prime minister of the Union of South Africa. Another famous name associated with Greytown, is Sarie Marais, legend of the famous song, whose grave lies on the outskirts of the town.

The Greytown Museum, which is rated as one of South Africa's best country museums, houses a wide variety of outstanding collections and displays, from a Victorian children's room to steam trains and a ship's cannon.

If you are traveling northwards towards Dundee, stop off along the way and take a look at the Bushman paintings on the rocky hillsides where a cairn of stones was placed by early Zulu travelers who passed here, for good luck.

Other locations of interest in Greytown include the Mosque, built in 1946 to replace the original of 1898, the Shri Vishnu Mandir Temple, upon the dome of which the lotus flower symbolizes spiritual life, and the St James Anglican Church whose archway and stained glass windows were brought here from England.

The Umvoti Vlei Nature Reserve is situated on a wetland rich with waterbirds.
There are two hot mineral springs  in the area, Lilani and Shushu, which provide excellent opportunities for bird watching.
