Kameeldrift East Overview Information
Kameeldrift East is a rural area situated halfway between Pretoria and the Roodeplaat Nature Reserve and Dam to the northeast of the City. This is a very attractive area with several small accommodation outlets and is just a few minutes from the N1 and N4 Highways. There is a luxurious spa in Kameeldrift with all the facilities you can think of.

The Roodeplaat Dam is only about ten minutes drive from Kameeldrift East. This dam was once known as the Pienaars River Dam and was originally constructed in the 1950s to provide water for irrigation purposes for surrounding farmers. The dam is nearly 800 hectares in area and has been taken over from Water Affairs - it is now surrounded by a large Nature Reserve. There are a number of wooden huts in the reserve where visitors can spend the night. The reserve is home to blue wildebeest, kudu, waterbuck. Warthog, duiker and impala and several other species of buck and antelope.

Pretoria itself was founded in 1855 by Marthinus Pretorius, a leader of the Voortrekkers, who named it after his father Andries Pretorius. During the First Boer War, the city was besieged by Republican forces in December 1880 and March 1881. The peace treaty, which ended the was, was signed in Pretoria on 3 August 1881 at the Pretoria Convention. Pretoria achieved official city status in 1931.
