Karkloof Nat. Reserve Overview Information

Karkloof is a steep flat topped kloof, stretching for over 50 kilometres, between Rietvlei and Curry's Post, in the scenic countryside of the Natal Midlands.  The Karkloof Falls, with its 88 metre drop is an impressive sight which can be enjoyed while picnicking or braaing under the shady trees surrounding it.

An area of quiet, natural beauty, unchanged over centuries, The Karkloof Nature Reserve is home to Crowned and Martial Eagle which breed among the yellowwood and black stinkwood trees.  Under the care of The KwaZulu-Natal Nature Conservation Service, The Karkloof Nature Reserve comprises 936 hectares of indigenous forest. Porcupines, duiker and other small game roam the area.

Visitors to the area can treat themselves to The Karkloof Canopy Tour available in the valley, offering a unique nature experience gliding through the treetops suspended on strong cable.
