Kirkwood Overview Information

Kirkwood, in the Greater Addo area, is known as the citrus capital of the Eastern Cape. Its subtropical climate, ideal for visiting throughout the year, is perfect for growing oranges, lemons, and grapefruits. Kirkwood is also known for its gorgeous roses, game farms and annual Wildlife Festival. The area is also recognised for the discovery of the first complete dinosaur fossil, not far from Kirkwood, aptly named 'kirky' because of its likeness to a turkey.

Just north of Kirkwood are the Rietberg Mountains, through which the Uyepoort provides a route to the Zuurberg Mountains and the Greater Addo Elephant National Park.
