The western Johannesburg suburb of Linden lies just to the West of the Jan van Riebeeck Park. It is a large suburb and houses several large and important schools. There are two swimming pools and a host of recreation areas in and around Linden. To the East is the Parkhurst Bowling Club and the Pirates Sports Club, which are housed in the Sir Lionel Pillips Park. Just to the South of Linden are the Johannesburg Botanical Gardens and the Emmarentia Dam and Sailing Club. The nearest large shopping centre to Linden is the Cresta Shopping Centre, which is situated just a few blocks away to the West.

Linden is fortunate in being surrounded on three sides by green parkland of one kind or another. There are several bird sanctuaries among these areas as well as numerous sports clubs. The suburb is one of friendly large plots and long straight streets and avenues.
