Parkwood is one of Johannesburg's older more dignified suburbs and here you will find large two-story houses that are an extension of the mansions of Houghton. In the northern part of Parkwood many properties have been taken over as professional offices, and here you will find attorneys, doctors and specialists. Parkwood is situated right next door to Rosebank with its malls, shopping centers and up-market boutiques and restaurants.

Parkwood has no schools but is within easy reach of the Johannesburg Zoological Gardens and the National Military History Museum. Just a few blocks to the east of Parkwood are the Killarney Golf Club and Houghton Golf Club. For cricket lovers the Wanderers Cricket Ground and Golf Club are a mere five minutes' drive away. The Nigerian Embassy is in Parkwood and situated on Bolton Avenue. Parkwood is within walking distance of the Zoo Lake Sports Club and the Herman Eckstein Park.
