The Pretoria suburb of Riviera is situated just a few blocks from the city centre which is easily accessible, and a short distance from historical landmarks, the zoo, main shopping centres, hospitals, bus routes and major highways. Union Buildings are within walking distance just to the South of the suburb. The suburb of Riviera is ideally placed for visitors who want easy access to any of the city’s many embassies or consulates. Loftus Sports Stadium is situated very close to Riviera and can easily be reached on foot.

Pretoria itself was founded in 1855 by Marthinus Pretorius, a leader of the Voortrekkers, who named it after his father Andries Pretorius. During the First Boer War, the city was besieged by Republican forces in December 1880 and March 1881. The peace treaty, which ended the war, was signed in Pretoria on 3rd August 1881 at the Pretoria Convention. Pretoria achieved official city status in 1931. Riviera is just a few blocks from the city’s CBD.
