Stanford is a peaceful little village, overlooked by the Klein River Mountains and spread along the southern bank of the river of the same name, just before it widens out to form a coastal lagoon. In true Cape style, Stanford is famous for the delicious wine and cheese that it produces; delicacies that the host of cosy restaurants in the area are only too pleased to provide.

Stanford offers a wide variety of outdoor activities ranging from mountain biking, horse riding and exploring rugged 4x4 trails to hiking and bird watching. The Klein River provides Stanford's visitors with the opportunity to explore the beautiful surroundings by boat, either with an operator or alone by kayak.

The Salmonsdam Nature Reserve, about 20 km east of Stanford, lies at the foot of the Perdeberg, Akkedisberg and Tafelberg peaks that provide a majestic backdrop for the incredible bird life, mountain fynbos and waterfalls that make the reserve so spectacular. There are wonderful kloofs, precipices and paths for avid hikers or you can stroll through the relic forest.
